The Hecker Woodbot: a small robot made from wood remnants with screws as eyes and antennasCurrent events

From the remains of wood to the woodbot

Hecker Editorial · 05.10.2026 · 2 min read

Sometimes it doesn’t take much at all to make something special out of a piece of wood.

In our workshop, there are always small pieces of wood left over during daily work. They’re too much of a nuisance to throw away – we thought. So we immediately came up with a small idea: our Hecker Holzbot.

One body, one head, two arms, two legs, a few screws – really, there’s not much more needed. From simple wooden scraps, a small robot is created that not only looks good, but also gets a task: A smartphone finds its place between his feet.

This turns recycled wood into a small mobile phone holder for the desk, kitchen or workshop.

Building your own instead of simply buying it

For the Home Expo in Luxembourg We turned the idea into a small trade fair event.

In total, our workshop produces 100 wooden building kits. The wooden parts are prepared and packaged together with the required screws as a small self-assembly kit.

Whoever gets one doesn’t therefore receive a finished promotional item; instead, they can still be a bit of a craftsman themselves.

Put the head on, screw on the arms and feet, mount the eyes and antennas – your own wooden robot is ready.

And because wood is a natural product, no two are exactly alike in the end.

But how do you get one?

We didn't want to simply distribute our 100 wooden sticks.

That’s why we have a finished model on our stand and we ask only one question:

How heavy is our wooden box?

Whoever puts the weight on ± 5 grams exactly Those who purchase the limited edition kit will receive one directly at home.

100 pieces. As long as there is stock.

A small idea that fits us quite well

Of course, we don't usually build robots.

We build houses, extensions, additions, roofs, and individual wooden structures. But at its core, the small wooden building has something that is also important to us in our larger projects:

Use wood wisely. Work precisely. Pre-assemble. Assemble. And turn a simple material into something that will bring you long-lasting pleasure.

And sometimes good wooden construction actually starts with a small piece of reclaimed wood.
